The BOLD Idea
Be B.O.L.D. was founded in September 2012 by a young driven entreprenuer, Tamika Lee. Tamika was working passionately in the community to provide girls with a safe place to assemble as one. Be B.O.L.D. was incorporated in April 2013.
The group mentoring sessions were launched in 2014 as an after school program, for grades 7 through 12. Girls from all cultures attend group once a week to discuss the outcome of their school day and discuss goals and plans for the remainder of the week. This provides the girls with encouragement and helps build trust amongst their peers.
Having group mentoring gives these girls the experience of togetherness, and provides the girls with positive adult role models. The girls discover that they are not alone and they have a commonality with the girl sitting next to them.
Mentoring has always been the "word" that folks would discuss concerning our youth and those in need of a little motivation. Having one on one mentoring was ideal because it gave the individual being mentored the attention that they most likely were lacking. But what about the ones that did not know how to converse in a one on one setting?
That is the purpose of Be B.O.L.D.. Recognizing that girls have a tendency to dislike each other without ever meeting was overwhelming. The girls of our communities need support from us, as well as one another.
Be B.O.L.D. Inc. was granted its 501(c)3 April 2013
